I’ve been essentially offline for nearly 2 weeks now. It’s funny, cos when I moved in to the flat, the water was connected instantly! So was the electricity!! I bought electricity and it wasdelivered to me in the time it took to flick a switch! Phonelines on the other hand, crazy new shit like broadband; that stuff is hard to get hold of. You have to get on a waiting list. A couple of waiting lists. Then they can start building the special pipes that carry internets to your home. Or something. Anyway, BT have promised that the necessary technical restructuring required to get a broadband connection at my address will be completed by Saturday. w00t! etc.

In the meantime I’ve managed to coax what was hilariously sold to me as “mobile broadband” to work on my iMac, so an iPhone is no longer my primary computer. Unless, that is, I want to access something depraved like Twitter or Flickr, in which case I’m outta luck – cos it has a ‘Content Lock’ blocking filth like that. So all I’ve got left is porn and wikipedia. Can you imagine? You learn a few acronyms, I’ll tell you that.

So, what with all that, obviously this is hugely out of date. I have the pictures, but every time I open Lightroom I’m reminded of all the other editing and processing I’ve got to do, and… and… oh you don’t want to hear this, my 3 dear readers. Suffice it to say that I’m going to start getting up to date, and if you’re an email subscriber I apologise in advance for any slew of alerts. It might be best to unsubscribe for a while.

First up, and it was worth the wait… A lamp!

I think the reason I took this (apart from the fact that I really like this lamp) was that one of the first things I do when I move into a new place is replace the overhead incandescent lightbulbs with daylight bulbs. And they make your other lighting look really orange.

Do you put daylight bulbs in for photography or for personal taste?

Duncan, I like them for personal taste, but it’s also a huge bonus that they are roughly the same colour as camera flash. I recommend them to anyone. They’re a bit expensive but they last forever and it’s the cheapest way I know to make a whole room look noticeably nicer.
